Pastor and author Colin Smith was right when he said the letter of 1 Peter is:
“God’s discipleship manual unedited. As you get inside this letter, it will get inside you and provide God-given direction for your life.”

Introduction
As I write this introduction on May 19, 2024,
- The world is experiencing unrest and uncertainty.
- Our country is dealing with political, social and economic pressures.
- Neighborhoods have crime and security issues.
- And Christians are ostracized, tormented, oppressed and even suppressed.
The people of God have experienced times like these now and then. By “now and then” I don’t mean every once in a while. I mean the people of God are experiencing times like these now, in the 21st century, just as they did then, in the first century. Solomon was right when he wrote: “History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new.” (Eccl. 1:9, NLT)
Truly,
- words of comfort and encouragement would be welcome.
- words of assurance would be helpful.
- words of guidance would be beneficial.
- words of hope would give us confidence.
- the words of 1 Peter were written for times like these.
The apostle Peter wrote in 1 Peter 5:12 (NLT),
… My purpose in writing is to encourage you and assure you that what you are experiencing is truly part of God’s grace for you. Stand firm in this grace.
Pastor and author, Colin Smith, describes the book of 1 Peter as,
“God’s discipleship manual unedited. As you get inside this letter, it will get inside you and provide God-given direction for your life.”–
