“… small groups can help people grow, but developing disciple-makers is pursued most effectively in a one-on-one context.”
“Systems may aid the discipleship process, but discipleship is not a system. Discipleship is following Jesus. It requires help that is much more personal and relational.”
— Jared C. Wilson
“Come, follow Me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” And at once they left their nets and followed Him.”
Launching Multipliers is a resource for equipping believers in Jesus Christ to fulfill 2 Timothy 2:2. Through Christ-centered instruction and practical training, individuals will be prepared for effective personal ministry and spiritual reproduction.
This course uses the book Launching Multipliers by Kenneth Horton, published by Ministry Catalysts, 2020. You can learn more about the book Launching Multipliers HERE, and the author, Kenneth Horton, HERE.

To participate in this course, you will need:
- to be committed to becoming a dedicated follower of Jesus, actively growing in the knowledge of, relationship in and, service with the Lord Jesus Christ, and to help others do the same.
- a copy of the book, Launching Multipliers, which is available in the Logos and PDF formats.
- The Logos format requires the Logos Bible Software app which is available for free HERE, including web, desktop/laptop and mobile versions for Windows, Android and Apple devices. (Includes many good study tools and resources for free. Additional tools and other resources are available for purchase or subscription.)
- a Bible (If you don’t have one, see recommendations HERE).
- a notebook for taking notes from your study of the material and your cohort meetings (also referred to as huddles).
- 2-4 hours to study each section (called a “session” in the book). One section should be completed as scheduled (usually each week).
- about 60-90 minutes for each huddle with your cohort and/or mentor, usually once or twice a month.
- a commitment to attend scheduled huddles and complete all course assignments.
There are three basic ways to use this course:
NOTE: People serving as a mentor with this course must be qualified as a Disciplemaker Mentor, committed to the process of Personal Discipleship, and be familiar with the Launching Multipliers material, preferably by having gone through the course.
One-on-One
Launching Multipliers is designed and most effective when used in a one-on-one discipleship ministry between a mentor and a mentee. This is often called “Personal Discipleship”. The mentee studies one section of the book and then meets every weekly or two with their mentor to confirm their progress, answer questions and receive guidance. It is highly recommended that the mentor and mentee are of the same biological gender.
Cohort1
If a mentor is not available for One-on-One discipleship, form a cohort by finding one to three friends with the same commitment you have to become a dedicated follower of Jesus, actively growing in the knowledge of, relationship in and, service with the Lord Jesus Christ, and to help others do the same.
Each week members of the cohort study one section in the book along with one or more other members of the cohort. At the end of each study period, all the members of the cohort come together for a huddle to discuss what they learned and did with that assignment. They then repeat the same pattern with the next section in the book.
At the beginning and end of the course, and at least once a month during the course, the cohort meets together with their mentor to confirm their progress, answer questions and offer guidance.
If a member of the cohort misses a huddle, then another member who did attend the huddle must follow-up with the absent member as soon as possible to update them on what was covered during the huddle.
Individual
If the One-on-One or Cohort options for study are not available, the Launching Multipliers course could be used for personal study, though not recommended (except maybe to learn what Personal Discipleship is). This would be like taking swimming class without a swimming pool. All you would get is the basic concept without the practical training. Not very useful.
After the Course
Now the real work begins – discipling others the way you learned and experienced yourself through this course. The time you spent working through this course needs to be be used from now on to help others do the same (2 Timothy 2:2). You should also join a cohort of fellow multipliers (mentors/disciple makers), meeting periodically to help and encourage one another in the ministry of disciple making.

Footnotes:
- Cohort-based learning is a learning model where a group of students (a “cohort”) progress through an educational process, working together, at the same pace, and often with shared experiences. This approach fosters a sense of community and collaboration, potentially leading to higher completion rates and deeper learning compared to traditional, self-paced online courses (according to EducateMe LMS). ↩︎
