The Gospel

The Gospel is a four-part, interactive, Bible study course that explains what the Gospel is, and prepares Christ followers to share the Gospel and their own personal salvation testimony with others.

  • Course length: 4 lessons
  • Prerequisites: None
  • Recommended formats: Self-Study; Personal Discipleship; Small Group
  • Requirements:
    • Bible
    • Note‑taking materials or device
    • Optional: Internet access to view internet resources
  • Expectations: (If you are following the Personal Discipleship or Small Group formats.)
    • Consistent attendance and participation at all course sessions.
    • All assignments completed before each session.

Assignments

For each lesson listed below

  1. Take notes on what you learn in class and at home.
  2. Complete the assignment before the next session.

If you are following the Personal Discipleship or Small Group format:

  1. Be ready to summarize what the lesson taught, how it affected you, and how you will respond to what you learned.
  2. Be ready to ask questions and discuss details related to the assignments.

Lessons

Session 1 – The Gospel Story

Session Objectives:

Assignment (to be completed before the next session)

  • Read and ponder the Bible verses listed in the session objectives above and review your notes from class.
  • Watch the video about the Gospel at:

  • Read Ephesians 2:8–9 and write a one- or two-paragraph summary describing what it tells you about God’s grace (His undeserved favor) and the salvation He offers through Jesus Christ.

Session 2 – God’s Story

Session Objectives:

  • Review The Gospel Story (previous session).
  • Understand God’s Story instructions (Matthew 28:18-20).
  • Discover our role in God’s Story (Acts 1:8).
  • Learn how to share God’s Story (Handout: Romans Road to Salvation).

Assignment (to be completed before the next session)

  • Read and ponder the Bible verses listed in the session objectives above and review your notes from class.
  • Watch the video about witnesses at:
    https://bibleproject.com/videos/martus-witness/
  • Review the Romans Road to Salvation handout and memorize the headings.
  • Share the Romans Road to Salvation with someone.

Session 3 – My Story

Session Objectives:

  • Review the Gospel Story and God’s Story (previous sessions).
  • Study the apostle Paul’s My Story (Acts 22:1–21).
  • Define your My Story.
  • Prepare your My Story.

Assignment (to be completed before the next session)

  • Read and ponder the Bible verses listed in the session objectives above and review your notes from class.
  • Practice sharing your My Story.
  • Tell someone your My Story.
  • Read how Paul shared his My Story with God’s Story in Acts 26:1-29 so effectively, Agrippa realized Paul was trying to get Agreppa to accept God’s salvation through Jesus Christ.

Session 4 – Our Gospel Story

Session Objectives:

  • Review The Gospel Story, God’s Story, and My Story (previous sessions).
  • Practice sharing God’s Story, and your My Story.

Assignment:

  • Periodically review your notes from this course.
  • As you are going through life, help to make disciples by routinely sharing your My Story and God’s Story with people.
